Picture 1: Main Gate to Aushwitz

A photo of the entrance to Auschwitz Concentration Camp
The main gate to Aushwitz Concentration Camp. The sign reads "ARBEIT MACH FREI", which translates to "Work makes free", although it probably means "Work for freedom".
(The image is a link, you can click on it, or if you just want the URL then this is it:

I chose this picture because it is the front gate to Auschwitz and it directly links to "Out-With" in the book and gives a better idea of what the camp looked like.

I think a visual aid helps to understand what the camp actually looked like, since in the book it just refers to it as hundreds of tiny huts inside a giant fence with what looked like telephone poles.

(All code in this post was written by me :D)

  1. Excellent choice of picture-directly related to the central problem of the novel. Although your response was appropriate, at this level you need to explain your ideas more fully. Assignment states a two paragraph response for each picture, map, journal etc. You had much extra time for this novel study.
